Should You Use Computer Eye Glasses For Digital Eye Strain?

Digital eye strain refers to a group of eye and vision-related problems that occur due to prolonged computer, tablet, e-reader and cell phone use. Many people feel discomfort in their eye and vision problems when looking at digital screens for too long. This leads to people seeking digital eye strain treatment.

Looking at a digital screen is not like reading a printed page. Often the letters on the device are not as precise or sharply defined. Also the contrast level of the letters to the background is reduced. The presence of glare and reflections on the screen also makes viewing difficult.

The angles and distances of your view are also often not those commonly used for other reading or writing tasks. This leads to the additional demand of more eye focusing and eye movement for digital screen viewing.

What are computer glasses?

Computer spectacles promote clearer vision. This reduces the need to strain your back and neck.

Do you know how the glare of blue light affects your sight? Exposure to digital screens can lead to symptoms such as headaches, dry eyes or blurred vision.

Wearing blue light blocking glasses and being careful of your screen time can reduce symptoms of digital eye strain, also known as computer vision syndrome.

How computer glasses wor

Computer glasses have lens treatments that block or filter out blue light. The lenses lower the amount of blue light that enters the eye. This will make work on digital screens safer and more comfortable for your eyes.

What is blue light?

Natural blue light has a close link to alertness and awareness. The sun’s blue light wakes us up in the morning, and its absence tells us when it’s time to sleep. Go outside on a sunny day, and you’ll realize that natural blue light is wonderful for you. It will make you feel more awake and also improve your mood.

Artificial blue light from digital screens have an entirely different effect. Sources of blue light are:

      Computer screens

      Smart phones

      Tablets

      Fluorescent lights

      LED lights

      Plasma screen TVs

      Fridge lights

All blue light sources can hurt your eyes, and lead to pain, headaches, or even damage to the retina. Artificial blue light is very harmful for your eyes and your health.

How can we prevent this?

Use computer glasses or UV glasses for computers.

These glasses are built to protect your eyes. They get rid of unwanted glare and reflections and reduce eye strain to enhance your focus so that your eyes feel less tired.

Also, follow the 20-20-20 rule and regularly take breaks from the screen. Ideally, you should aim to take a break every 20 minutes, to look at an object 20 feet away and for 20 seconds.

You can also use Sure Vision glasses to eliminate the damage caused by digital eye strain. These eye care glasses exercise your eyes and make them stronger so that they are less vulnerable to external damage such as from the UV rays. Sure Vision pinhole glasses have an equidistant series of holes on the lenses which allow only narrow beams of light to penetrate into the eyes. This increases both clarity of vision and depth of field. These glasses can also be used to improve refraction errors such as myopia and hypermetropia.

  1. The best source of blue light does not come from our screens but, from the sun. Even though you might spend little time outside, you still need to wear blue light glasses to protect your eyes.
If you work through any electronic screen then you will need to have computer glasses with you at all times. However, they are not the best when it comes to blocking our blue light.
