5 Tips to Relieve Computer Eye Strain

In our constantly advancing world, technological wonders never cease. Digital devices like smartphones, TV’s, laptops and tablets have become a vital part of our daily lives.

Unfortunately, no matter how amazing and innovative these devices may be, our eyes are paying the price of our obsession and nonstop usage of these devices. Particularly now, when for most of us, our homes have now turned into our daycares, offices and gyms because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

We’re now spending more and more time on our laptops and phones to help us get through this difficult time. This is also why computer vision syndrome (CVS) has become so common. Around 90% of computer and device users experience digital eye strain, which comes with symptoms like decreased or blurred vision, burning or stinging eyes, light sensitivity, headaches and back and neck pain.

This eye strain also has an effect on your eyesight. So, if the question is, ‘how to improve eyesight’, then here is the answer.

1.     Use proper lighting

You can get digital eye strain due to excessively bright light either from outdoor sunlight coming in through a window or from interior lighting that is too harsh. This is why you must reduce exterior light by closing window shades or blinds. You can reduce interior lighting by using fewer light bulbs or lower intensity bulbs and tubes. If you can, put your computer at a place where the windows are to your side, instead of being in front of or behind your screen.

It is best to avoid working under bright fluorescent lights. A better option is to use a floor or table lamp that provides softer, indirect lighting.

Generally, soft-white LED light bulbs tend to be more comforting for your eyes than daylight or cool white bulbs with higher color temperatures.

2.     Upgrade your display

Do not keep working on an older computer. If possible, upgrade to a new device with the latest, high-resolution screen technology. Change the brightness of the screen to set it at a comfortable level (about the same brightness as your surroundings). Also, if you can, consider buying a device with a larger screen for easier viewing.

3.     Zooming exercise

Yes, you can do eye exercises as well. For zooming exercise, you need to stand straight and hold your arm straight in front of you. Keep your thumb up and start focusing on it. Slowly bring back your thumb closer to your eyes and concentrate on it again. Repeat the exercise for 15 minutes.

4.     Do not put the computer monitor near a window

As discussed above, additional light and glare can really strain your eyes while you’re working on a computer. Ideally, you shouldn’t keep your computer anywhere near the window. If you have no choice, then just make sure that there are curtains and blinds in the window so that you can control the intensity of light throughout the day. You should not be facing an un-shaded window when working on a computer or laptop. The difference between your screen brightness and the outdoors may cause eye stress. Use an anti-glare screen to reduce reflections.

5.     Change the Color temperature

You need to adjust the color temperature of your display. In the visible spectrum of light, blue light has a short wavelength. This is why it causes more eye strain compared to colors of longer wavelength such as red and orange. Reduce the color temperature of your display. This will reduce the amount of blue light your monitor emits, giving you viewing comfort.

Finally, if you want permanent relief from worrying about eye strains, you can do so with Sure Vision. Sure Vision is eyesight improving pinhole glasses that also relieve eye strains. It allows only narrow beams of light to hit your retina which makes your eyes work harder to see. This results in a better depth of field and clarity of vision. After using Sure Vision glasses regularly you will definitely feel your eyes getting stronger and more clearer after a few months. In fact, many have even gotten rid of their prescription glasses completely after using Sure Vision.
